Evelyn Metten

Director of Children’s Ministries

I was born and raised in Goleta/Santa Barbara area and lived there until just recently. My husband John and I chose to settle down in East Ventura because it had the same close-knit community feeling we had been experiencing in Goleta. I was raised in the church and had a relationship with Christ in my youth. I enjoyed many years as a counselor, backpacking in the Sierras with Inner City Ministries youth and “Uncle Jim”. It wasn’t until I was an adult with children that I realized that I hadn’t fully surrendered my life to Christ as my Lord and Savior. After laying my life in God’s hands I have been led on a journey of working with children in different areas. I was introduced to BSF (Bible Study Fellowship, Int.) in Santa Barbara, and while I was learning more about God’s Word, I was able to pass on His love as a Children’s Leader there for 6 years. I also helped begin and sustain the Logos program (a midweek children’s program) and directed VBS for a few years at my church. I have been to Children’s Ministry training at Saddleback Church as well as a week long Logos training program which I coordinated. Over the last 2 years, I have lead VBS crafts, helped with Wed. evening CBS and led the children’s First Service class at Gold Coast. My stronger gifts range from Art, Crafts, Games, and Storytelling…creatively teaching the Word of God so that the children can carry it with them. My passion is for children to not only learn what the Bible is saying but hold it in their hearts and live it out everyday. God is in control 7 days a week, not just on Sunday.
